Manchester United interim manager Ralf Rangnick believes the club's need for a striker in the summer is "clear."

United's recent inability to convert chances played a key role in their Premier League draw with Burnley and FA Cup loss to Middlesbrough.

Cristiano Ronaldo's future is also in doubt, with Edinson Cavani's contract expiring this summer and Mason Greenwood's availability.

United have long admired Norway's Erling Braut Haaland on the pitch.

"This is self-evident," Rangnick remarked of the scenario. "Edinson's contract expires in the summer, and the team is in desperate need of a new centre-forward. That is something I believe everyone is aware of."

Haaland, a prolific scorer for Borussia Dortmund, is familiar with Rangnick, as the German assisted in the transfer of the 21-year-old to Red Bull Salzburg in 2019.

If United bring Mauricio Pochettino back to England to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the summer, it has already been reported that the former Tottenham manager would like to reconnect with Harry Kane.

Lautaro Martinez of Inter Milan and Alexander Isak of Sweden, who has been extensively connected with Arsenal, are two more possible targets, while Rangnick is a renowned fan of Czech Republic striker Patrik Schick.

Clearly, choosing Solskjaer's replacement will be United's top priority at the conclusion of the season, but it is also expected that a large focus will be placed on bringing in a new manager.
